Diploma in Hydrology
This course is designed to train personnel for the hydrological services in ground water and surface water techniques. On completion of this course, students will have an understanding of the basic principles involved in hydrology. In particular, students will be able to perform meaningful hydrological analyses to support integrated water resources management. Field work is normally conducted outside of Barbados. Technicians completing the Diploma in Hydrology course successfully are expected to:
- Perform basic precipitation analyses;
- Measure the relevant hydrological cycle components;
- Estimate the relevant hydrological cycle components using empirical formulae;
- Perform rainfall frequency analysis;
- Estimate the return period associated with precipitation events;
- Describe hydrologic simulation;
- Calibrate and use simple rainfall-runoff models.
- Supervise Hydrological Observers and Hydrological Technicians
- Assist hydrologists in operations and research
- Collaborate with agencies in practical aspects of surface and ground water utilization
